About Families is proud to offer birth doula trainings and certifications, helping to better our community by providing more trained support professionals to aide mothers and families in their journey through pregnancy, birth and postpartum ​

Train with About Families as a birth doula. Embark on a journey that will change your life in profound ways. A doula is a non-clinical support professional who holds space for the client and family, provides emotional and physical support, and information tailored to the clients needs and desires.

•Prioritize a clients autonomy, encourage informed decision making and self advocacy. 
•How to foster a mutually respectful team approach with the birth team and allied professionals

About Families Birth Doula Certification Requirements

Training


  • Sign up and take our 2 1/2 day in person training.
  • Receive and complete pre training learning.
  • Attend all days of training where you will get in depth information, training and learn hands on skills in an intimate group environment that you will be encouraged to stay connected with after your training as you start your journey as a doula.

Post Training Requirements


  • Reading Requirement: 5 books from given list in categories covering, Birth, Breastfeeding, Postpartum and related topics
  • Class sit ins: Sitting in on and fill out worksheets for 3 formational classes with topics including childbirth education, breastfeeding basics and newborn care.
  • Attend at least 3 births, receive evaluations from client and  write a summary of each birth and your role
  • Completion and passing of multiple choice and short answer exam
  • Create client resource list and personalized business form packet that includes Doula Agreement, Client Intake, Media Release and detailed form of your services provided.

Continual Support and Certification


  • Upon completion of training you will receive help through the certification process,
  • Continued education, support and mentoring through About Families.
  • Access to private About Families Doula community to share information and support as well as to get informed first about continued education events and doula opportunities.
